San Francisco was my home for twelve years. I arrived in 1975, after hitchhiking for fifteen months through Latin America, and later, with a few friends, formed "The Modern Lovers" arts commune. This lowrent living allowed for a lot of free time. I built a darkroom and spent many days photographing neighborhoods ranging from downtown to the nude beaches, and the cultural melange of hippies, gays, straights and squares. It was also easy to venture up and down the coast, from the Santa Cruz Boardwalk to Muscle Beach in L.A.
