Castro to Christopher Street Portfolio

In 1978, I returned to San Francisco after traveling through India and Europe. Two weeks later, Supervisor Harvey Milk and Mayor George Moscone were disgustingly murdered. I was shocked and outraged and started visiting The Castro neighborhood with my camera to see what was going on. I was drawn in by the unfolding cultural revolution  and kept going back. When I was in New York City I also photographed on Christopher Street and Fire Island. In time, some of my images were featured in the gay magazines The Advocate, the Bay Area Reporter, and Gai Hebdo Pai, in France. In 2023, a selection of 128 images were published by powerHouse Books in my monograph Castro to Christopher: Gay Streets of America, 1979—1986.
